What is Microsoft Office Delve?

We love exploring the Microsoft 365 catalogue of apps and services. There are so many useful apps available, some less known than others. And there’s little we love more than recommending a fantastic Microsoft 365 app to someone, and seeing them fully bought in, using it personally or professionally.

One Microsoft 365 product we haven’t mentioned before is Delve. You can use Delve to manage your Microsoft 365 profile, and to discover and organise the information that’s likely to be most interesting to you right now – across Microsoft 365.

Delve never changes any permissions, so you’ll only see documents that you already have access to. Other people will not see your private documents.

How to Use Delve

To go to Delve, select Delve in the app launcher in Microsoft 365, or open delve.office.com in your browser. Sign in with your work or school account if necessary. Click someone’s name or picture anywhere in Delve to see documents they’re working on or to learn more about them. When you find a document you’re interested in, add it as a favourite or to a board to easily get back to it later. Search for people, documents, or boards.

Only you can see your private documents in Delve. And other people can’t see your private activities, such as what documents you’ve read, what emails you’ve sent and received, or what Teams conversations you’ve been in. Other people can see that you’ve modified a document, but only if they have access to the same document.

Note that documents are not stored in Delve. If you want to change permissions on any of your documents, you can do this from where the documents are stored, such as OneDrive for work or school or SharePoint in Microsoft 365.

What you see in Delve is different from what other people see. You can see your private documents and other documents that you have access to. Other people can see their documents and documents that they have access to.

Delve Profile Management

Your profile page in Delve is a great opportunity to let others know more about you, what you’re good at, and what you’re working on right now. Add projects, skills, and education history to your profile to help others find you when they’re looking for people with a certain expertise. Remember to keep your information up-to-date!

Your profile contains information about you that people in your organization see when they visit your profile page. Some of this information is added by your organization and always shared with everyone, such as your name, title, department and manager. The information that’s shared with everyone, has a small globe icon next to it when you hover over the information.

For some details, you can click the globe icon and choose Only you can see this. Information you choose to keep private this way is marked by a small padlock.

More Information in Delve

Discover new information on your Home page, get back to your own documents on your profile page (Me), and find information about other people on their profile pages. You can also find back to documents in Favourites or find documents through boards.
