As part of Microsoft 365 Business Premium, you get access to a number of advanced security features, designed to protect employees and company data. One of these security features is Intune – a part of Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility and Security package. Find out how Intune can help keep your employees and company data safe.
So, what is Microsoft Intune?
Intune is described as a cloud-based enterprise mobility management tool. It helps organisations manage the devices employees use to access company data and the apps they use, such as email. Intune integrates with other parts of EMS, such as Azure Active Directory and Azure Information Protection.
Intune allows users to access company data and applications from almost any device while keeping that data safe at the same time. It allows organisations to issue company-owned mobile devices, offer a BYOD policy or provide limited-use shared devices to certain workers.
Benefits of Intune
- Range of devices: employees can register, enrol and manage their devices, and install company applications on their chosen devices
- Manage Office applications: access company data via mobile apps on their personal mobile devices
- Data protection: secure company data, including Exchange email, Outlook email and OneDrive documents. This is based on the enrolment status and policies set by the administrator
- No infrastructure maintenance: Intune is cloud-based, so there’s no need to maintain infrastructure
- Flexible licensing: licenses per user mean less time spent counting devices!
Mobile Device Management
With Intune, you can provide a self-service company portal so users can enrol their own devices and install company applications. Settings can be executed remotely, such as password resets, device locking, data encryption and a full device wipe to protect company data on lost or stolen devices. You can restrict access to certain applications on any unenrolled or non-compliant devices.
PC Management
With Intune, you can have real-time protection against malware on managed computers. There’s the option to automatically scan computers to protect against malware and any unwanted software. Depending on the policies defined by the administrator, you can deploy software and configure Windows Firewall settings.
Common uses for Intune
- Protect on-premise and cloud-based email and data, so it can be accessed from a mobile device
- Offer a BYOD programme to employees
- Issue company-owned mobile phones
- Issue limited use shared tablets
- Allow employees to securely access Microsoft 365 from non-company devices
